The spectacular Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland, with its 27 miles of shoreline surrounded by pine forest and heather moorland offers the perfect setting for a long distance triathlon. The Park's remoteness and clean air ensured that it was voted the most tranquil place in the country by the Campaign to Protect Rural England. In addition,Kielder Water & Forest Park won gold to be officially recognised as the best tourism experience in England.
This unique event will consist of a 3.8km open water swim in Kielder Water (Europe's largest man made lake), a 180km road cycle through the rugged border country. This is then followed by a 42km trail run (non technical) around the full circuit of the Lakeside Way.
Relay Category: For those who want to complete the challenge as a team, there is also a relay category open to teams of three. Each person competes in one discipline, for the swim, the cycle and the run. This is open for male, female & mixed teams - ideal for specialist swimmer/cyclists/runners or beginners, who would like to test themselves over a single discipline.
Venue: Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder, Northumberland, NE48 1BT.
The event will be based from stunning setting of Leaplish Water Park on the shores of Kielder Water. Offering panoramic views of the reservoir, this is the ideal venue with event HQ, start/finish, transitions, accommodation and restaurant all situated at the one location. (Getting to Kielder)
Registration: Event registration and briefing will be on Saturday 18th June between 2.00-5.00pm. (There will be no registration on Sunday morning.)

The course is Ideal for both newcomers to long-distance triathlon and experienced long-course competitors alike.
3.8km Open Water Swim: Based from Leaplish the 3.8km lake swim will consist of two circuits near the shoreline which makes it ideal for spectators.
(Please Note: Under no circumstances is swimming allowed in Kielder Water at any time apart from the actual event).
180km Road Cycle: With a border crossing into Scotland, this is a spectacular cycling route through the rugged borders region on some of the quietest roads in the country. Although there are no major climbs it is an undulating/hilly course with a total ascent of over 2000m/6/500' throughout (The climbs are not 'Lake District 25%' gradients, more of a rolling nature with an average gradient of 15%). The course for 2016 will consist of two circuits, returning back to Leaplish after the first, making it ideal for friends & family to cheer you on.
This whole route takes in some breath-taking views of the Border country and the quiet roads have excellent riding surfaces.
42km Trail Marathon: This is a unique off road route for a long distance triathlon encompassing the whole of Kielder Water. The route incorporates one full circuit of the Lakeside Way. Surrounded by the vast expanse of Britain's largest forest, this is a multi-user trail that encircles the shoreline of Kielder Water. Accommodation:There is an abundance of accommodation options in an around the area.ranging from camping to luxury lodges. Leaplish itself has excellent accommodation facilities, including luxury woodland Scandinavian style self catering lodges and a caravan site suitable for both touring caravans and motor homes. Course cut off times: From the race start you will have the following times to complete each section of the course;
Swim: 2 hours 20 minutes
Bike: 10 hours 30 minutes/4.30pm
Run: 17 hours/11pm
These will be situated at transition and on the course at the following locations;
Saughtree, Leaplish (First circuit)
Forest Head - 'Silvas Capitalis' at13km
Kielder Dam car park at 26km
There will be a variety of sweet & savoury snacks including; 9Bars, jellies, bananas, chocolate, mixed fruit & nuts, sausage/cheese rolls, salted peanuts, coke, squash, water & tea/coffee.
Facilities/Included: Professionally run event, qualified & experienced personel at various checkpoints, qualified medical support, online registration, fully marked routes, route maps, commemorative race t-shirt and unique finishers medal, refreshments at finish, hydration & feed stations on the course, on site catering, on site accommodation, event photography, free event parking, changing, showers.
Entries: minimum entry age 20 years old. The event will be run under current British Triathlon rules.
