The True Mountain Whinlatter Xtreme Duathlon is an off road duathlon based in the spectacular setting of Whinlatter forest park. This will be in addition to the standard duathlon at Whinlatter in November.
Course: The event will consist of a 9k run up to the summit of Grisedale Pike, 25k mtb incorporating both red north & south mtb trails, followed by a 9k trail/fell run.
Event Venue: Visitor Centre, Whinlatter Forest Park, CA12 5TW.

Start Time: 9am. The event will start across the road at Revelin Moss car park. Registration, Transition and Finish areas will be based adjacent to Cyclewise (same as previously).
Terrain: Both runs involve fell terrain, forest trails and singletrtack. Suitable trail/fell shoes are highly recommended/essential. The MTB course incorporates challenging climbs, tricky descents & technical features...on some of the best bike trails in the UK. Cyclo Cross bikes can be used on course if the rider is capable of riding Red graded MTB trails.
Run 1: This will be a 9km mountain trail run to the summit of Grisedale Pike via the dramatic Sleet How ridge. From the summit it's a spectacular singletrack descent to Hobcarton End then back into the forest to T1. Total ascent/descent 629/627m (2,065').
MTB: An incredible 25K route initially following the Quercas Blue graded trail, followed by the full circuit of the Altura red south loop and if this wasn't enough.....a blast round the fearsome Altura north loop. Total ascent/descent 716/716m (2,350'). Cyclo Cross bikes can be used on course if the rider is capable of riding Red graded MTB trails.
Run 2: This will be a 9km trail run incorporating Seat How, Lord's Seat and Barf. Total ascent/descent 465/460m (1,500').

Courses will be marked so no navigation experience needed.
Relay Category for Pairs: You can also enter this event as pairs and complete the race in relay style. One person cycles, the other runs. This is open for male, female & mixed teams - ideal for specialist runners/cyclists or beginners who would like to test themselves over a single discipline.
Entries: Minimum entry age is 18 years old.
