  • Do I Have To Carry Specific Kit for An Event?
Yes, this is very important & is for your own safety. It is important to understand that the event routes are often in remote areas, possible adverse weather conditions & that the weather can deteriorate at any time of the year, It's also important to understand that the weather can change quickly, with conditions in the valley very different from high up in a forest or up a hill. To ensure you're prepared, all participants must dress appropriately for the conditions with suitable clothing & footwear. Please check each event for the specific kit required or recommended. We understand that you may not necessarily need to use this kit, but it is essential that you are prepared for the eventualities that could occur. For example, if you are forced to stop through injury, it may take a while for any assistance to reach you & that you will soon cool down rapidly.
  • Why Do I Have To Carry Waterproofs If I Don't Wear Them?
"I never use waterproofs & have never needed them before, why do I need to carry them?" "Do I need to carry waterproof trousers or just a jacket?" These are questions we are asked very frequently. We understand that you may not necessarily need to use them during an event, but it is essential that you are prepared for the eventualities that could occur. For example, if you are forced to stop through injury, it may take a while for any assistance to reach you & that you will soon cool down rapidly (even in warm conditions). Waterproofs also help to protect against windchill We have had situations in previous events, with an injured participant not carrying the required kit & having to rely on other participants to provide them with additional clothing to keep warm. So, yes you do need to ensure that you are carrying full body waterproof cover (jacket & trousers) if stated on each event kit list.
  • Can I Volunteer or Work at an Event?
We are always looking for volunteers to help out on the event day. If you would genuienly like to help out, we would love to hear from you! Volunteer roles can be anything from helping out at one of our feed stations, course marshal, registration, course sweep or cover a variety of roles. It can also give you an idea of what the event is about if you are new to the sport and are not sure what to expect. Many people who have helped out have been surprised how friendly and informal it is, some go on to compete themselves, others continue to enjoy helping! In return we can offer, a free entry into any future event. We'll also cover any travelling expenses if required. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy and would like to come along, drop us an email at: info@highterrainevents.co.uk for more details. We also have a number of specifically skilled & qualified personnel at each event (i.e. mountain leader, outdoor first aid). If you are suitably qualified & would like to work for the day please contact us.
